The Fishing Village of Salema

The village has kept its original charme despite its increasing popularity among tourists. The colourful fishing boats and the nets and tackle of fishermen adorn the little harbour.

Local fishermen still go out regularly and bring back their catch for the morning sale. In the last few years several restaurants serving regional dishes, freshly caught fish and shell-fish and the typical Portuguese cuisine have opened. They are either in the village or along the promenade.

Salema’s infrastructure is good. There are 3 supermarkets with a good stock; a baker comes daily to sell his freshly baked breads and cakes; and one also finds fruit and vegetable stalls in the village square each morning. Not only locals buy from them.
